Dangers of geolocation on the iPhone

iphoto-1The iPhone’s camera and geolocation

Surely you know that when we take a photo with the iPhone, thanks to the GPS can identify where it has done. The iPhone automatically adds these data, provided we have the GPS enabled and has a recent and valid position when making the picture. The geographical coordinates of where the photo was taken are added to the EXIF data along with information such as exposure, aperture, etc.. This jpg file is incorporated into the picture.

The problem
A priori, this should not pose any danger. In fact, currently used in many Internet services to mark the location in Google Maps.

However, we want to teach some cases we have found the net. These photos we found on Google Images and have fallen as they were, without altering them, all you have done is add them to iPhoto.

Here is a first example, some girls who take pictures with your iPhone and are providing their position around the world, because the pictures are on the internet, available to anyone.

Nor is it something serious, are on the street, an airport, but attention to the following example.

In this other picture you can see a girl in an attitude suggestive. Now imagine that this girl is chatting with a stranger and passes this photo. ‘ve Run a complete stranger everything you need to be present at home by surprise.

Actually this girl is doing something worse. Uploading your photos to the Internet so anyone can know where you live. Not going to happen for that, but does not seem a good idea.

We found some pictures even more risque, we will not put here, which clearly shows the house where they did, without any doubt.

If you are working with search engines, you can find many photos that include geographic location, some more embarrassing than others.
Our advice

To avoid bad experiences Go not up photos that you can commit and if you climb still the Internet, at least careful not to take all that information, because you never know so mad loose.

You can edit the photo, many programs to destroy the EXIF data and also touched up, do not cost much to find applications to edit, delete and / or modify the EXIF data contained in a photo.
