iPhone loses market share and the possible effect Razr

With so much hype and fanaticism spinning, we never seemed to give a story like this but in the last quarter of 2009 the iPhone achieved something that almost never achieved, losing market share!

iphoneAccording to data from ABI Research, worldwide iPhone dropped to 16.6% of the market share of smartphones in the fourth quarter from the 18.1% it had in the third quarter.

Should be clear that Apple’s sales continue to grow and are one of the companies with the industry’s best profit margins but it now appears that growth is not keeping pace with the rest: Apple sold 8.7 million iPhones in the last quarter which means a 18% increase over the previous quarter but the market for smartphones grew 26% over the same period, with Nokia and Motorola achieving good results.

In the last quarter of 2008, the iPhone also saw a drop in their market share and I found very interesting the opinion of Michael Morgan analyst who talks about a possible effect Razr years since it offers the same type of mobile with the same design and people can get bored of it.

They are obviously two very different cases especially since Apple is a company that draws the attention of the industry like no other but the truth is that if the iPhone 4G does not come with any significant change in the hardware will be difficult to trace after The iPhone 3GS bring very little new in that regard.
